- Distinguishing Feature:
- The male is easily distinguished from all others by its extreme melanism, relieved only by extensive pruinescence. The female, more difficult in this respect, is determined by having the head entirely black beneath, the abdomen black beneath as well as on the dorsum, and by the absence of the small humeral yellow spot present in most species.
